Family & Caregiver Training
I am keenly aware of the incredible challenges individuals and families face when it becomes necessary to provide ongoing care for a loved one. These caregiving responsibilities might be required for individuals with neurodevelopmental differences, acquired brain injuries, neurodegenerative diseases processes, cancer, or other needs.
My personal experience in caregiving has included:
locating and accessing community support resources
providing direct caregiving assistance for activities of daily living
hiring, scheduling and training in-home caregivers to assist with the responsibilities (and being on call 24/7 when in-home caregivers called out sick)
long-term advocacy with staff and caregivers in an assisted living setting when a loved one could no longer be cared for at home
In addition, my work as an SLP has provided me with many opportunities to work with families and assist them with problem solving for caregiving issues. The goal is always to support families in maximizing quality of life for everyone!
