Technology Training
Learning to use Technology is more important than ever for many reasons. Paying bills, scheduling medical appointments, ordering products by mail… all of these are examples of daily activities that frequently require use of some type of computer or hand-held device and access to the Internet.
In addition to these more functional activities, the use of technology can actually enhance and enrich our lives… even make accessing desirable activities more convenient! During these difficult COVID-19 pandemic times, meeting with loved ones in person may not be possible or advisable. Technology offers options to meet “virtually” via various types of videoconferencing. Technology also makes it easier to access many types of health care services “remotely”, reducing potential barriers associated with transportation and mobility challenges.
No matter one’s age, I believe it IS possible to learn to use technology in ways that are meaningful and that reduce isolation. I have assisted individuals in their late 90s learn to use technology to connect with family members living far away. I have also worked with individuals recovering from brain injuries, helping them use technology to compensate for difficulties with memory and communication skills.
For many, the biggest challenge in learning to use use technology is not having assistance with the learning process. You may feel anxious or intimidated just by the very thought of beginning at the bottom of one more learning curve.
