Teletherapy

The terms “teletherapy,” “telehealth”, and “telepractice” are frequently used interchangeably. They all refer to the “mode” for delivery of professional health care services; a “mode” that incorporates telecommunication technology to deliver services at a distance. Teletherapy is not a separate form of health care and the standards of care are the same as for services provided to clients in-person.

New England Communication Therapies uses Teletherapy as our primary modality for treatment and service delivery. Our teletherapy technology platform permits interacting with clients and their families in their own homes via live, interactive video conferencing. Functional and interactive therapy tasks are easily adapted to teletherapy modality.

Laws that protect privacy and confidentiality of medical information apply equally to teletherapy and we use a HIPAA compliant platform that includes a secure Client Portal. Intake documents can be completed in the comfort of your home with no need to print out paper copies. In addition, resources and documents can be shared securely through the Client Portal.

  • internet access (high bandwidth is recommended)

  • a quiet, private location for therapy sessions

  • some clients benefit from having an electronic helper (e-helper) present in the room to assist as needed with technical difficulties
